What we see on TYPO3 CMS sites

What TYPO3 CMS does well
  • TYPO3 is heavily used by German-speaking enterprise organizations. Multilingual implementation on TYPO3 is more sophisticated than on any other CMS we benchmark.
  • Content governance shows clearly -- consistent metadata, structured navigation, and clearly defined publishing workflows.
  • TYPO3 sites in our corpus represent serious organizational investments. These are not personal sites or side projects.
Common issues
  • Default TYPO3 configurations that haven't been performance-tuned. The platform can be fast; the defaults are not.
  • Structured data almost entirely absent. TYPO3 has no built-in schema tooling, and the extension ecosystem for it is thin.
  • Heavy backend configuration that doesn't translate to frontend speed. The admin interface is sophisticated; the visitor experience sometimes isn't.
Things we've noticed
  • TYPO3 has the most concentrated geographic distribution in our corpus. The vast majority of TYPO3 sites are in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland -- running TYPO3 in the US makes you genuinely rare in our data.
  • TYPO3 sites in our corpus show the highest rate of multi-language implementation of any CMS. Proper hreflang and language-specific metadata appear at a rate that far outpaces any other platform.
