What we see on BigCommerce sites

What BigCommerce does well
  • BigCommerce sites show stronger technical SEO fundamentals than other ecommerce platforms -- canonical tags, Open Graph, and robots.txt control are better utilized.
  • Mid-market positioning shows in catalog depth. These are real commerce operations, not side projects.
  • B2B-specific features (quote request, account management, tiered pricing) appear on BigCommerce more than on Shopify -- the merchant audience is doing more complex commerce.
Common issues
  • App dependencies for features Shopify bakes in natively. BigCommerce's app ecosystem exists but is smaller.
  • Performance gaps on pages with heavy product filtering or comparison tools. Complex faceted navigation under load.
  • Meta descriptions on category pages that are too generic -- often auto-generated or left at defaults.
Things we've noticed
  • BigCommerce merchants use significantly more B2B-specific tools than the average ecommerce platform in our corpus -- quote request, account management, and tiered pricing show up far more often than on Shopify.
  • BigCommerce sites show the highest rate of dedicated campaign landing pages in our corpus -- separate from the main storefront, used for ad traffic. The mid-market audience does more sophisticated acquisition.
